Everyone is sharing this mortifying Cecil the lion clarification... but all isn't as it seems
LAST NIGHT, CNN reported that Cecil the Lion’s brother, Jericho, had also been killed.
This morning, a Zimbabwean conservation group confirmed that Jericho was alive and well. (It was also later confirmed that Jericho is not Cecil’s brother.)
Rumours of Jericho’s death caused a commotion on Twitter, but arguably not as big a commotion as this throwaway line from a report about Jericho’s alleged demise.

“…who is also a lion…”
Oh really?
The seemingly unnecessary clarification was taken from a Gawker article published last night and subsequently shared thousands of times on Twitter.

It even trended in Dublin at one point.

People just couldn’t wrap their heads around it.

Given that it’s taken from Gawker, we can probably assume that the clarification was included as a sarcastic aside.
But it seems that many people mistakenly presumed the line was an example of stupidity from CNN and didn’t realise it was a joke – hence why it was shared so widely.
